Hi Everyone. Recently I received documentation about the original Kopecki's landing in Panne Texas. I will be updating this site. Sorry for my lack of updates recently. February 20, 2011

In the beginning...

Wojcek (Albert) Kopecki Sr. and Mary Titzman of Prussia Poland had a son, Albert Jr. (1872), who was my great grandfather. As a matter of fact, they had at least one other son, Steven (m. Julia Kolodziej). If you read the News section, I was contacted by his granddaughter, Judy Slate. (ed. note: Visit geneology.com to read what Judith Slate wrote about the Kopecki and Makovy families.)

Albert Kopecki Jr. found his way to Cestohowa, Texas where he married Anna Niestroy (though it is noted he was married to an Anna Nesfecz), whose father was Philip Niestroy, and her mother, Agnes Pieprzyca, in 1898. Anna was born in Panna Maria, Texas (1875).

Great Grandparents Albert and Annie's children were Adrian Patrick Kopecki (m. Phyllis Ann Kolodziej), Sylvia Kopecki (m. Adolph Opiela), John Kopecki, Sr. (m. Emilia Moy), Frank Kopecki (died in infancy and is buried at St. Ann's cemetary in Kosciusk, Texas), Joseph Frank Kopecki, Sr. (m. Otylia Skrobarczyk - again, look in the News section), Marie Kopecki (m. Alois Bernard Biela and buried at Blessed Sacrament cemetary in Poth, Texas), and Lucy Anne Kopecki.

I am the granddaughter of John Sr. and Emilia, so what you see will be written from my perspective.

As of February 20, 2011-> ...

My grandparent's children were John Jr. of Texas, Steve, Theresa, Lambert, Herbert and Albert of California. Sadly, Lambert passed away in California June 23, 2005. He was preceeded in death by his older brother Steve, and younger brother, Albert.

This web site was inspired by my cousins, Gigi Berry (daughter of Theresa) and Randy Kopecki (son of Herb), who at the time were organizing the first family reunion of the California Kopecki clan. Naively, I did not think at the time about all the other Kopecki's out there, and have heard from a many and varied group. Although my focus will remain with the family I grew up with, I will include any Kopecki information as it is forwarded. My greatest gift of information came from Jim Tudyk, my dad's cousin Jimmy, who was descended from my Grandmother Emilia Moy's sister. His daughter, Laurie Tudyk Grawl, found us through an Internet search.

In 2004, we heard from Beata - an English professor in Poland. Recently, Beata and her son checked back in with the following link showing her connection to the family: http://www.iarelative.com/czech/search02.htm

In 2005, I heard from Patrick and Joe Kopecki, who wrote from Houston. They are great-great grandchildren of Joseph and Otylia. Then there is Judy Slate from San Antonio. She's a granddaughter of Steven Kopecki, the youngest child of Albert, Sr., and Linda Nichols from San Antonio, granddaughter of Joseph and Otylia.

In 2006, Joe Kopecki of Pennsylvania checked in. Known as Tonto Joe, one of his favorite activities is jumping onto his Harley with his wife and taking off for parts unknown!

Even from my more immediate family, there are cousins unknown to the California branch, but close in relationship. At the end of the year 2005, Theresa Kopecki Kotzur wrote. Her father is John Jr. (Sonny), Uncle John's granddaughter. She caught me up on some more of the family relationships with the Texas branch. Now if anyone can tell me how Chad Kopecki is related, who's father Emil is from Falls City, I will try to coordinate a new section of people with this name ;-).

The guestbook is returning! I HATE spam and the scripts that grab your emails, so had to disconnect it. But I think I have worked around the problem and will try it again. Photographs will be included as space allows and we will continue with the annual family reunion (stay tuned). All are invited and participation in the organization of the event would be gratefully appreciated. Here's to family, peace, polka and piwo!
